After Santiniketan, musical production 'Shotoborsho Pore' to be staged in Kolkata

Musical production 'Shotoborsho Pore' will be held in Kolkata at the Tollygunge Club on December 5. The production, scripted by scholar-educator Gautam Bhattacharya, was held at Viswa-Bharati’s Udayan last month.

The Kolkata edition features interdisciplinary artiste Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee and actress Charity Ghoshal on the readings. The songs will be performed by Priyam Mukhopadhyay and Ritapa Bhattacharya. The content involves prose from Lipika and songs from Geetabithika, written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1919.

“I am happy that we are staging the production in Kolkata and I hope the audience here gets their share of enchantment too", said Sujoy, who is currently shooting for Trinayani, a daily soap in which he plays a negative character. He also shared his experience of performing in the debut show of Shotoborsho Pore in Santiniketan. “We received a fabulous response in Santiniketan. In fact, it's a privilege as a South Asian artiste to perform in the abode of Tagore. I had audience members in tears coming up to me and saying,

‘Your reading transposed us to another world’. In fact, 1919 was the year of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the political turmoil and loss of human lives was a huge blow to the creative instincts of Tagore. The content of Shotoborshe Pore includes prose from Lipika and songs from Geetabithika.”
